Prologue: a call for help

A work in process, The Hawaii Seas is a photography project by David Duncan Livingston. Livingston is a well known photographer from Mill Valley, California whose work has been published everywhere, seven books of which he was the sole photographer for, including Hawaii A Sense of Place. For this project, Livingston is working to identify, locate, and photograph places of cultural significance. Hawaiian narratives gathered from chants, poems, and anthropological knowledge will make up the text and context of Hawaii Seas. From the knowledge base of a community of elders, a rich understanding and integrity of content is growing with the project. Hawaii Seas will convey through beautiful serene photographs a feeling of place and history.
